Youth Services Librarian/Assistant Director
Richmond Free Library welcomes applications from experienced library professionals for this opportunity to lead our Youth Services Department and serve as Assistant Director. The position is a vital part of the Richmond Free Library team and the Richmond community, and collaborates with local community groups, caregivers, and schools. The ideal candidate will have experience working with children of all ages and backgrounds and their families in a variety of settings, as well as supervisory or management experience.
This position oversees the Youth Services Department, and the full library and staff one day per week and in the absence of the Director. The Youth Services Librarian/Assistant Director plans and executes weekly literacy programming, school break and summer reading programs, and ongoing activities with the aid of youth library assistants and volunteers. This position curates a robust collection of materials for ages 0-18 and maintains a safe and inviting environment in the youth area. This position also oversees room rentals, billing, and payments.
The ideal candidate is dedicated to youth and literacy, stays organized and efficient even with frequent interruptions, and is passionate about delivering fun, educational, and inclusive experiences for library visitors.
Qualifications: Master of Library Science from an ALA accredited program (preferred) or a bachelor’s degree in a related field plus a Vermont Certificate of Public Librarianship (or equivalent). Minimum of 2 years of library or related experience required with varied managerial responsibilities. Public library experience is strongly preferred, including programming, cataloging, staff supervision, and collection development.
Must exhibit excellent time management skills; be able to complete detailed and accurate work, and work in a PC/Windows environment with intermediate technological skill in word processing, spreadsheets, website administration, and more.

Working Conditions: Physical requirements include the ability to lift and carry up to 30 lbs. (books, supplies, meeting room furniture), answer phone calls, work at a computer, and assist in general library maintenance such as sweeping, removal of rubbish, and snow shoveling.
About the Library: Richmond Free Library is a municipal public library serving the 4,100 residents of Richmond, Vermont. It is housed in a renovated 1879 church and features a large function room and grand piano. The Library is a community hub, which serves the information and entertainment needs of residents and neighbors, and provides gathering, meeting, concert, and workspace for people of all ages. The Library has a reciprocal borrowing relationship with 30 nearby libraries and collaborates with community groups for programming and resources.
Full Time (32 hours/week)
$26-$30/hour based on experience
