SUMMARY:Worry Dolls
DESCRIPTION:In celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month\, the libra
ry has teamed up with artists from Radiate Art Space to offer a fun opport
unity to make Guatemalan-inspired worry dolls. Worry dolls\, also known as
muñecas quitapenas in Spanish\, are small\, colorful dolls that originat
ed in the highlands of Guatemala. The tradition originates from a Mayan le
gend about a princess named Ixmucane\, blessed by the Sun God with the abi
lity to solve human problems.  In honor of this gift\, people have been
traditionally making these tiny\, handmade dolls as representations of Ixm
ucane. According to the legend: Before bed\, tell your worries to the doll
s and then place them under your pillow\, so they will take the worries aw
ay by morning. \nOur dolls will be made from pipe cleaners\, yarn\, beads
\, and fabric. Youth ages 4–10 are welcome to join us for this creative
experience. Please register in advance by calling or emailing the library:
  (802-434-3036 / library@richmondvt.gov).\n\n
